When we first set out to host an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. get together during San Diego Comic Con we anticipated a healthy response predicting around 200 RSVPs and about 50 people actually showing up on the day. Once we posted the details for our party it became apparent quite quickly that there was more interest than we had anticipated. A change of plans followed and we decided to take over Henry’s Pub on 5th Street for the night and open the space up to as many people as would fit. By the time Sunday rolled around we had had a whopping 2685 RSVPs!
We had some swag made including tote bags, t-shirts, mugs, stickers and a few special items including Agent Coulson POP figures and ID cards and a few copies of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comic Marvel were giving away at the booth. Knowing we would have a big turnout I swung by the Marvel booth Sunday morning and asked Mike (who is a wonderful individual by the way!) if he could get hold of a few posters for us to give away at the party. Much to our delight he handed me more than a few, in fact we ended up with enough to give one to everyone who came to the party as they left (sorry for the few of you who left early before we got them out).
Over the weekend we tweeted hints to fans about where they could find clues that would give people a secret code phrase to get a ticket into the door prize. A big thanks to booth holders Jason Palmer Art, Marian Call and California Browncoats for their help. Be sure to check out their websites because they are all awesome!
For every purchase of food or drink at the event attendees got an extra ticket into the draw so that those who weren’t didn’t have tickets to the convention could still have a chance of winning our swag.
Not everything ran smoothly, especially when we kept drawing dud tickets out of the barrel but for the most part fans seem to have a great time and we rotated between random ticket draws and trivia to give out the prizes. It was a fantastic way to wrap up an amazing weekend and great chance for me personally to meet some of the fans who have been following me on twitter.
Mark from Henry’s Pub was super helpful.
I want to take a moment to thank those who helped out at the event including Jennifer, James, Rae, Lily, Dee and Katie, thanks also to those who brought some stickers along to give away and most importantly to Mark and Henry’s Pub who were fantastic hosts for our event, check them out next time you’re in San Diego (their pizza was amazing!)!
We think we had around 300 people attend throughout the night and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
