With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. due to start filming next week it come as no big surprise that anticipation is building rapidly. Fans are expecting news and excitement from next Friday’s San Diego Comic Con panel and today Zap2it published an interview with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunners Maruissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon and executive producer Jeff Bell after speaking to them at the Television Critics Association press tour.

In the interview they discuss how things will be different with everything that happened in the final episodes of the first season with Hydra and with Director Coulson left to piece S.H.I.E.LD. back together. “Last we saw them, they were being hunted. They were no one’s friends. They’re in a bit of a pickle when we find them,” Whedon says.

They hint that Skye’s ex-boyfriend Miles may return and confirm that Agent Ward will be back but without spilling any details. Bell did say “We love who he’s become. He’s really fun.”

Fans expecting another mega-crossover a-la Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be disappointed because such an epic event isn’t in the cards though we can expect the story to remain connected with the movie universe in some way.

In other spoiler-related news, TV Guide has hinted at a new character based on what appears to be a casting call… make of it what you will.

Let’s play a game. I’ll give you a description and you guess which Marvel character this newcomer might be. I hear they’re casting for a ruggedly handsome, physically fit actor to play a character who can escape any situation, is a bit of a wild card and, though he’s mostly interested in personal gain, always ends up doing the right thing.
