According to TVGuide.com Bill Paxton will appear in at least 4 upcoming episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Agent John Garrett who will work with Agents May and Ward. John Garrett is a known Marvel character who was turned into a cyborg after being injured in the line of duty though there is no word on whether or not this will be an aspect of his character during his run on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen spoke to TV Guide about the casting. Whedon said, “We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger.” Tancharoen added that Paxton comes “into the fold in a very surprising way.” She says, “He is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he get, when Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”
