Ming-Na Wen was born in the Portuguese territory of Macau. As a toddler, she moved with her mother and brother to Hong Kong following her parents’ divorce. Her mother later re-married to a Chinese-American business man who relocated the family to the USA when she was four years old. She lived in Queens, New York and later, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began acting in school productions in the the third grade and pursued acting as a career over her mother’s objection. She holds a degree in theater from Carnegie Mellon University.

Ming-Na Wen married actor Eric Michael Zee in 1995. They have one daughter, Michaela (b.2000) and one son, Cooper Dominic (b.2005).
