We learned today that David Boyd has been looking through the lens and weaving his magic as Cinematographer on S.H.I.E.L.D. Whether Boyd will stay on as cinematographer should the series be picked up by ABC is unknown at this stage.
In addition to working on well known films like Castaway with Tom Hanks, Boyd has had an extensive television career working as Director of Photography for shows like The Walking Dead, Friday Night Lights, Without a Trace and of course Joss Whedon’s Firefly
Firefly actor Nathan Fillion and Joss Whedon discuss Boyd’s creative and unique approach to filming Firefly during the commentary on Serenity (series, not movie) and it’s clear working with Whedon on Firefly has had a big impact on his career.
Having been a part of Firefly is a special thing and I’m so happy to have done it. I learned an awful lot and the experience turned me into half of what I am today as a DP and director. I saw something come from nothing to full fruition, which is a great thing to participate in. Joss imagined it, wrote it, brought it to life. He put me in there and I learned plenty and had lots of fun doing it. – Interview on Creative COW Magazine.
