During the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel at New York Comic Con earlier this month Executive Producer Jeph Loeb was quick to reassure fans that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn’t going anywhere any time soon and stated Marvel and ABC are very happy with how things have been going so far.
Today the Live + 7 Day DVR numbers were released for the second episode of S.H.I.E.L.D. and showed a massive pickup of 64% in the 18-49 demographic bringing the final number to a 5.4 and also showed an increase of 52% in total viewers reaching an additional 4.5 million people. These numbers do not factor in online viewing via sites including the ABC Watch site, Hulu, iTunes, Amazon or xbox. Considering these viewer numbers it is obvious why ABC and Marvel are happy.
After this week’s episode “The Girl in the Flower Dress” the following Tuesday ABC will air a repeat of the Pilot. Breaks like this in the schedule are completely normal to allow filming and production time to put the episodes together (it takes 8 or more days to film an episode and then time in post production so simple math will tell you you can not have a new episode every week). Shows coming back from a break of one or more weeks typically suffer a larger than normal drop in ratings so don’t be surprised when you see this in a few weeks time.
