It’s ratings time again and with each episode getting better it’s good to see the numbers started going up again this week. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode "The Well" went up to a 2.3 in the 18-49 demographic and also went up in total viewers from last week reaching 6.85 million securing second spot for the hour behind NCIS once again.
We posted some things last week about why these overnight ratings aren’t as important as some would have you believe, if you missed it it’s worth a read.
Update: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. picked up in the finals (the numbers are adjusted to account for the 1 minute over run into the Goldbergs which rates lower,) increasing to a 2.4 in the 18-49 demographic and up to 6.89 million viewers.
Here’s the weekly table.

it needs to stay 2.2 and up to stay okay. networks currently get paid based on c3. c3 is usually close to same day.
live plus 7 is where AOS really picks up. it spurts ahead of NCIS and most other shows on tv. If ABC can be paid based on live +7 AOS will be a big winner.

The ratings are fine. It doesn’t really "Need" to stay anywhere, they’re making enough money via overnight ratings AND international syndication. It’s rare for any show to air in so many countries within its first few episodes of the series, they must have made a fortune there. Also, as you point out, while not as many people are watching live the numbers pick up significantly in DVR viewing and it’s all good.

Now..that’s what I call it "healthy". I guess the "Thor 2 tie-in" attracting more ppl, idk. But even if they watched the show just for that, I hope this ep can make them attracted to AoS, especially since this ep is really good, I think, and they will follow the show and watch all eps in the future. I am not someone who really believe in Nielsen ratings thing. It is critised all the time in my country. I know how the system works and it has so many weakness. For example in my country, the survey only held in 10 cities. Then the show is marked as ‘watched’ when the audience doesn’t change its channel for 17 seconds. Now, what if they actually go to bathroom and don’t even watch the show? In my country, housemaid is pretty common in a family and they usually watch TV at night (the wife usually busy with their kids and husband), so no wonder soap opera and drama always get the highest rating at primetime.
Sadly, the system only hold Nielsen ratings to see if the show is sucessful or not, and we have to follow it, like it or not. I believe ABC and Disney (and Marvel) have their own measurement to see things and not just depend on Nielson’s rating, fortunately. But I hope this show can maintain their rating in next eps, just to make sure that we will read good things in ratings update’s articles.

you are of course taking my comment wrong. at minimum of 2.2 it’s a no brainer. If it keeps dropping then it becomes a "based on other factors" decision. better to stay minimum 2.2.

To all the people worried about ratings, this show isn’t going anywhere. Think of it this way, Disney owns ABC and Marvel and they have a weekly show on the air that advertises their movies and millions of people watch it around the world. Plus they actually make money selling commercials for their hour long movie commercial so even if the rating fall down to breaking even, they’re still ahead. Plus Disney own the dvd/distribution rights to the show so they’re gonna make money there too. Plus the quality is getting better so the post broadcast audience may actually be bigger over time. Even in a worst case scenario, if the rating just fell below any acceptable amount and they lost faith in the show runners, they would just get Joss to come back and fix it (after he finishes Avengers 2) get rid of a few characters and cast new ones.

I agree with this – Marvel have a lot to gain from the show, especially if it introduces new viewers to their movies. From what I can tell, the viewers of AoS are split into a few categories; Long-Time Marvel Fans, Marvel Movie Fans, Joss Whedon Fans and obviously people who fit into more than one category or are in-between categories. Either way, there is a percentage of the audience – namely, the Joss Whedon Fans – who are like to be further drawn into the Marvel universe through this show and Avengers. I know that I have been. The Avengers was the first Marvel movie I ever watched and I wasn’t remotely interested in any of the others until I watched that. The big reason that I was keen on AoS was Whedon again – I wasn’t a huge Coulson fan, although I found him vaguely amusing.
Now, though, I have seen almost all of the Marvel movies – I have watched Captain America, which I didn’t previously want to do on account of how he’s not called Captain Australia, and will be watching The Winter Soldier when it comes out here, I went to see Thor 2 in cinemas, whereas previously I would possibly have rented the DVD afterwards without much interest or even just watched it online, and I anticipate Marvel movies with much more excitement. So if you take me and multiply me by at least several hundred, Marvel has a lot to gain through AoS. Add to that people who were fans of AoS but not necessarily Joss Whedon or Marvel and now are, and you have a lot of potential new audience members. So I figure that it works.
Also, just a side note, I totally didn’t know Disney owned Marvel. And that’s totally weird. Disney is scary and taking over the world.

You mean in the finals? We posted that in the table at the top
yes, it’s good to see the numbers went up … but now we have an anxious 6 hour wait for THIS week’s ratings… I don’t worry about the ratings as far as the longevity of the show (it’s doing great) but because I know fans (and haters) will go crazy if they drop again LOL

The show is awesome,
I’m glad the rates are going up.
In time it should be really high i’m sure.
The main purpose of watching it is seeing how Agent Coulson survived.
