Some love the new name for the S.H.I.E.L.D. television series that was discovered on ABC’s website aimed at advertisers earlier this week and some hate it. The new name Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has stimulated quite a bit of discussion.
Most assume the name was altered to avoid confusion with the series The Shield and this is a fair assumption. Some feel the new name is cumbersome and a little awkward and many have been suggesting that as with the movies the “Marvel’s” will typically be dropped from the title for every day use. This leaves us with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which has a nice ring to it even though it may still be a little long.
Chances are most of us will likely continue to refer to the series as simply S.H.I.E.L.D.
It’s interesting to note that in the short time since this title was discovered ABC have already made a significant change. Instead of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” they have now replaced “Marvel’s” with the Marvel logo. You can compare the two versions used on ABC’s buying & marketing website below. It is nice to see that the new version makes S.H.I.E.L.D. stand out amongst the crowd of in-development projects.
