While it was logical that S.H.I.E.L.D. would take place post-Avengers after statements made by Joss Whedon recently that they had decided to do the S.H.I.E.L.D. series before the Avengers was complete until now it has not been confirmed.
The question now becomes how can Clark Gregg reprise his role after a certain stabby even took place in the film and we’ll look at some of the possible options in the near future.
IGN spoke to ABC President Paul Lee today and he said , “There is no question that it is part of the Marvel Universe. In fact, the story takes place after the battle for New York.”
He also made the following comments. “This is S.H.I.E.L.D. They’re following their own particular stories. There are characters in it, Coulson, who clearly come from Avengers. So it’s part of the world, but we’re going to be very, very careful that we don’t tread on the toes of the features and build a whole new world. And that’s what Joss Whedon does better than anybody else. He’s built a world for us.”
So it is interesting to see that Couson will not be the only character appearing from The Avengers.
S.H.I.E.L.D. starts filming next Tuesday.

Phoenix tears. (I hear they have healing properties.)
That being said, I hope they don’t cheapen Coulson’s death in the film by saying he faked it or something. I kind of liked that it was the blood of an ordinary man that was the glue that bound all those extraordinary people together.
Having just re watched Avengers a couple of days ago I think we’ll find the death was faked, well not so much that the death was faked but that he never died in the first place and Fury just lied about it.
I still haven’t done a re-watch (I know, I know) but I remember believing he had died.
We never really saw a body though…
I wonder if they plan to bring Coulson back in Avengers 2. Would certainly be interesting.
Oh, well said! I believe Coulson was badly wounded and survived, but the fact that he went in knowing he could be killed – might even be likely to be killed – is the important thing.
I keep hoping for an end-of-credits scene with Agent Coulson in Iron Man 3, just to tide us rabid Phil fans over… and let us say “I told you so” to the Phil deniers
Exactly. Next to – if not tied with – Iron Man’s venture through the portal it was the most heroic act of the film.
Isn’t S.H.I.E.L.D. going to premiere before IM3 comes out?
Isn’t IM3 due in May? S.H.I.E.L.D. won’t start till September.
This does raise an interesting point though but i might start an IM3 topic for that
Ah, but of course. Show’s how much I’m awake.
