During Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ SDCC panel, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news online that Cobie Smulders will be reprising her role as Maria Hill in the ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ pilot. Many fans had already suspected her character would be featured in the pilot episode based on a voice over heard in many of the preview clips.
Whether she will have a greater presence in the series remains to be seen as Smulders is still contractually committed to ‘How I Met Your Mother’ for one more season, but this news does open the door for future appearances by her character. “Joss Whedon is a genius.”, Cobie said. “And any opportunity that I have to say words that he has written, I will take. … I love Clark and want to be a part of it, but we’ll see.”
Whedon also acknowledged the importance of Maria Hill’s presence in the mythos of S.H.I.E.L.D. “I wanted very much to have Cobie in the pilot because as much as anyone else, she IS SHIELD. She’s cool and commanding and has the dry humor that plays so well with Clark’s [Gregg]. Also, if she’s in it, I get to hang out with Cobie.”
After ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’, Smulders will next appear as Maria Hill in the upcoming ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’.
